Roses are red, violets are blue, that’s all been done, let’s try something new….
Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us, and one of the struggles many of us face is finding the perfect gift for that special someone.
Coming so soon after Christmas, it’s likely that you’ll have already presented your partner with whatever it is they most wanted, and the more you try to come up with something fabulous the more you panic. Before long, the florists or chocolatier’s begin to look like an oasis in the desert, and you succumb to the tired old idea of what is ‘romantic’.
Step away from the roses, both the Cadbury and nature grown ones! Check these ideas out instead for a little alternative romantic inspiration.
SEXY STUFF

Does your partner like orgasms? Course they do, and why not give them a new avenue of having one? If the one you love is a clitoris owner who is capable of clitoral orgasms, the Satisfyer Pro 2 will be well received. Rose gold in colour, powerful, rechargeable and waterproof, this inexpensive little thing could well earn you more than a big smile.
If your lover prefers penetration, what you have is options. Lots and lots of options. Persian Palm, for example, are makers of fine ceramic dildos and butt plugs. Not only can you choose a shape and size to suit the giftee, you can make it extra special by having your own design placed on it. How awesome is that?
If your partner is a traditionalist who simply must have hearts and flowers, head on over to Sh! Womenstore. Their Cupid 3 Valentine Dildo or Flower Glass Dildo are perfect offerings for your loved one.
For bepenised partners, I have it on good authority from my own love that there’s little that could be better than a Fleshlight/Fleshjack. Simple and affordable, there’s a Fleshlight for almost everyone. Does your guy have a favourite pornstar? There’s probably a Fleshlight for that. If their fave performer is a guy, Fleshjack may well have the one you’re looking for. Even if your partner prefers to fantasise about dipping their wick into aliens, zombies or vampires, Fleshlight have you covered.
Why not check out some sexy lingerie?
If you’re buying for her, a good rule of thumb is to see what she herself considers ‘sexy’. You need to remember that, while you do get a visual treat, it’s for her not you, so don’t go half cup and crotchless unless you know she’s into it. If she is, check out the risqué ranges at Lovehoney for inspiration. Even if she likes more coverage, their ever expanding catalogue could well have something she’ll love.
Same goes for if you’re buying for him. Don’t assume that he’s gonna love tight lace man-knickers just because you think he’ll look hot in them. Get something steamy by all means, but make sure it suits his personality. CloneZone have a massive range of men’s undercrackers to suit all tastes, so check them out. Planned a sexy night in but finding there’s something missing from your master plan?

Fill the gap with a sensual massage. SHUNGA have some beautiful gift sets to choose from, like this Geisha’s Secrets kit. A selection of glorious lotions and potions to pamper from top to toe. For a spot of luxury, head over to Coco de Mer and pick up a deliciously scented oil to slather all over your partner’s body. I can tell you from experience that this Roseravished one is wonderful.
Injecting a little extra heat could be all you need to make your romantic night a memorable one, and massage candles are just the ticket. For inexpensive options check out your favourite toy shop. If you’d rather have something a little more decedent, pick up a Parks Massage Candle, such as this Stimulating and Sensuous one. Also, LELO and Jimmyjane do some lovely ones too.
Kinksters have a veritable playground – or should that be playroom – of gifts to choose from, and they don’t have to look any further than this very website. Whether you’re into restraint or impact, Kink Craft kits would make perfect Valentine’s gifts for the kinky minded. I have personal experience with the Mini Flogger and Figure 8 Cuff kits and both are marvellous. If you’re not a crafty couple, keep an eye out for their special readymade Valentine’s cuff!
NOT SO SEXY STUFF
Not everybody is into sex toys or kink, but that doesn’t mean they should be stuck with the old hearts and flowers. The key is to think about what your partner loves. For those in relationships that are so new they haven’t had time to figure out what that is, here are a few ideas for gifts that might help you with your Valentine’s shopping.
Movies and music. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t like either of those. Take a peek at your partner’s entertainment shelf. Do they love Disney? I do, and that’s why my hubby bought me Finding Dory. Are they geeks? Suicide Squad is the way to go there. As for music, one of the most romantic things in the world harkens back to the 80s with the humble mixtape. Even if you don’t know what they love yet, showing someone that you want to share what you love with them is a good way to melt hearts.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t include my personal favourite area; words. For those who read them I’d recommend browsing through their e-reader or perusing their bookshelves. Once you have an idea of what they’re into, check out the latest releases in that genre to find something that fits.
For those who write words, notebooks, pens, pads… all of it puts a smile on our faces. Some have called it a busman’s holiday, but for me that couldn’t be further from the truth. Feeding my passion is the quickest way to my heart, and I’m guessing that would work the same for many people.
And that concludes my suggestions for Valentine’s shopping, saucy and otherwise. Whatever you choose to buy or make for your loved one, best of luck and Happy Valentine’s Day to you both.
