In this throw away consumer world we live in, it can be easy to look at a product and only think of finding the cheapest version to buy. We all do it, whether it’s because we want a bargain, or we have bills to pay and have to watch what we spend our money on. We are used to large manufacturers mass producing items, which allows prices to be kept down but doesn't always provide a quality product.

Kink Craft, along with many other artisan suppliers, don’t fall into this mass production arena. We start small, we are independent, and many of the people involved in these businesses are craftspeople who create the items themselves, making each one unique. We don’t want to create something just for us to use at home but instead want to create a quality item that will not only look good but be fit for use more than just once or twice.

This means the price of the item needs to reflect that. Great ideas don’t grow on their own. They need to be tended and nurtured and developed, and taken through the stages so that what started as an ugly duckling develops into a beautiful swan; an item that gives others the pleasure it has given the creator in the making.

It's time consuming and, at times, frustrating when that piece of leather or paracord or latex just won’t do what you want it to. You come up with more questions than answers as you go about creating your own toys and you find yourself needing to learn new skills and invent creative solutions to problems.

This all takes time and that is why craftspeople need to price their work accordingly. The price is not just based on the cost of the materials; it is the time to create and nurture and develop that idea as well as the time to physically make it.

Who knew a simple idea one day could actually take a month or more to end up as a finished product, and also look completely different from the original concept due to this process!

This is why we at Kink Craft want to offer more than just the finished product. We want to offer ways of making toys at a price that is more affordable, and help you to make beautiful, fun things yourselves. That’s why we have three categories for each of our products. We do offer ready-to-buy items, if you prefer; or our courses give all the information needed to make your toy. Finally, our kits provide all the information needed to make your item, plus the parts to create it.
